WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid Course (formerly OFA Level 2)
The WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid course is a 14-hour program (excluding breaks) designed to equip workers in various industries with essential lifesaving first aid skills.
Prerequisites
Candidates should be capable of understanding and performing the first aid skills necessary to complete the course tasks. No prior first aid training is required.
Certification
To receive certification, candidates must participate in at least seven hours of training and successfully meet the course objectives, as evaluated by an authorized instructor from WorkSafeBC.
Certification remains valid for three years from the completion date of the course.
What You Will Learn:
- How to perform the priority action approach
- The roles and responsibilities of a first aid attendant
- How to assess and manage soft tissue injuries
- How to make informed medical referral decisions
- How to identify and manage airway, breathing, and circulatory emergencies
- Performing CPR and using an AED
- How to manage bleeding and common medical emergencies
- How to identify rapid transport needs
- Managing responsive and unresponsive patients
- How to conduct a secondary survey
- Identifying and managing shock, environmental injuries, minor injuries, burns, and musculoskeletal injuries
- Recognizing and addressing critical incident stress
Course Length
The Intermediate First Aid course spans 16 hours.
